Local running enthusiast joins in the race to help fight breast cancer
This year’s Avon race for research will mark an important milestone for the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia – it will be the 15th and final event – and for one local person it will have special significance.
Patrick Beisler, a 63 year-old high school teacher from Caves Beach, has been in every race for research since the first event in 1996. On Sunday 23 October, he and his family will be joined by an estimated 3,000 people on the start line for the 5km fun run/walk.
Patrick describes himself as a “hardened runner” but he is also a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and believes that breast cancer research is a cause that everyone should support.
“I have had friends and family members affected by this disease, and I know how important it is to invest in research,” said Patrick. “We can all help to raise awareness and funding simply by entering this fun community event.”
Avon race for research is on Sunday 23 October. It is open to women, men and children of all age groups, in a variety of categories, including family and corporate teams. Everyone who completes the course will receive a free sunscreen and lip balm, generously provided by Avon.
Entry forms are also available at Newcastle Permanent branches or by contacting the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia on 4925 3022.
HURRY! Entries close 5.00pm Monday 17 October.
Avon race for research is proudly sponsored by Avon, Newcastle Permanent, The Herald, Southern Cross Ten and NXFM.
