ANZBCTG Awards Presented at the Annual Scientific Meeting in Perth, Western Australia
Members of the Australia and New Zealand Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG), and researchers involved in breast cancer clinical trials research, were recognised during the ANZBCTG’s 37th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) in Perth, Western Australia.
The ANZBCTG Awards Program aims to recognise the valuable contribution that ANZBCTG members and researchers make to the Group’s clinical trials research program; provide professional development opportunities to members; promote the activities of the ANZBCTG; recognise outstanding achievement by researchers, clinicians and scientists in their particular field; and encourage participation in breast cancer clinical trials research.
The following awards were presented during the ASM, which was held at the Pan Pacific Perth from 22-24 July 2015.
The Alan Coates Award for Excellence in Clinical Trials Research – Professor Kelly-Anne Phillips from Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. This award recognises a member of the ANZBCTG who has made an outstanding contribution to the ANZBCTG’s clinical trials research program. It aims to assist the recipient in their professional development.
The Robert Sutherland Award for Excellence in Translational Research – Professor Jack Cuzick from Queen Mary University in London. This award recognises Translational Researchers and their achievements and contributions to improved patient outcomes. The award is open to Translational Researchers worldwide.
The John Collins Fellow Medal and Travel Grant – Dr Jocelyn Lippey from Royal Perth Hospital. This award was established to encourage potential academic Breast Cancer Surgeons and Registrars to become involved in clinical trials research.
The Study Coordinator Prize – Ms Kimberley Sheather from the Patricia Ritchie Centre for Cancer Care and Research in Sydney. This prize acknowledges outstanding commitment to the ANZBCTG clinical trials research program by a Study Coordinator. The ANZBCTG’s Trials Coordination Department nominates an award recipient annually to the ANZBCTG Board of Directors for ratification.
Avon Travel Grants – Mrs Tania Campbell, Mrs Claire Haworth, Dr Clara Lee, Mrs Antonietta Marafioti, Mrs Anne Morcombe, Ms Kylie Museth, Mr Alexander Scott-Hoy, Ms Lisa Wilkinson and Ms Kathy Xu. These grants recognise Trial Coordinators and junior Clinicians who are unable to access institutional or other funding to attend the ASM. They are generously provided by Avon.
The ANZBCTG is Australia’s national breast cancer research group dedicated entirely to breast cancer research through the conduct of multi-institution and international clinical trials.
